1. Business-User Summary

Pricing Master Data (or Condition Records in SAP) determines how the system calculates the final price a customer pays. It automates complex pricing rules so sales reps don't have to calculate prices manually.

2. Why This Process Matters

Correct pricing directly impacts revenue and margin. Automated pricing ensures consistency across the sales force, prevents unauthorized discounts, and ensures taxes and freight are legally compliant and correctly billed.

4. Pricing Logic & Access Sequence

SAP uses a Pricing Procedure to determine the sequence in which condition types are calculated.

For each condition type, the system uses an Access Sequence to search for valid master data from most specific to most general:

  1. Customer / Material specific price (Highest priority)
  2. Customer Group / Material specific price
  3. Material base price (Lowest priority)

5. Pricing Calculation Example

Here is how the system calculates a final invoice amount:

DescriptionCondition TypeAmountCalculation
Base PricePR00$1,000.001 Unit @ $1000
Customer Discount (5%)K007-$50.005% of Base Price
Net Value$950.00Base Price - Discount

6. Fit-Gap / Customization Notes

  • GAP: Standard SAP requires manual entry of freight costs for third-party carriers.
  • Resolution: An interface was built to automatically pull live freight rates from our logistics partner's API and populate the freight condition type.
